Could the 70,000 Point Chase Ink Plus Offer Actually Be Available After 10/19?

UPDATE: This offer still appears to be publicly available in-branch only. So I was kinda right – go me!

If you read any other points and miles blog in the past month, you probably seen dozens of posts about the “Amazing 70,000 Chase Ink Plus Offer” or “Don’t Wait, Get 70,000 Points Today” and how the offer for this could expire any moment. In fact, many thought it was going to expire last week but it didn’t but now the new expiration date is October 19th. However, is it possible this is wrong and it could actually be extended again (cue mischievous laugh)!

This is pure speculation and I could be very wrong but based on this targeted offer my father received for his business, his 70,000 point offer is good until 11/10. To be clear, this is a targeted offer so by no means does it have to match the public offer that is going on for the Chase Ink Plus business credit card. The odds are small but it wouldn’t shock me to see Chase possibly extend that deadline one more time (and result in even more posts about with bloggers’ affiliate links which is something I refuse to do 🙂 )

*As a reminder, I do not have affiliate links as that is a direct conflict of interest with my consulting services. In fact, I didn’t even link to the card in this post.*

Point & Center: Bonus Miles for Flying to London, Activate Chase Freedom 5% Bonus for 4th Quarter & More…

Let’s take a quick look at some of the bigger promotions and deals in the points & miles world.

1) Activate Chase Freedom for the 4th Quarter – It is now time to activate the 5% cash back (or 5x miles if you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Ink Bold and transfer Freedom points to those cards) feature of the Chase Freedom for the 4th quarter categories. This quarter it should be very easy to earn the full 5% cash back on the maximum $1,500 in spending, as the categories are Amazon.com and Department stores. Amazon sells literally almost anything and you could always buy gift cards for future Amazon purchases. For others, department stores will be huge once the holiday season comes rolling around. Click here to activate the 5% cash back.

2) Fly United or Air Canada to London and Earn Up to 35,000 Bonus Miles – This tidbit will be helpful for some of my co-workers (well at least the one person in my department who gets to fly to London) as you can earn up to 35,000 bonus miles by choosing to fly United or Air Canada to London. You must register for the promotion first here, and travel by December 12th.  The only downside to this promotion is you must book a certain fare class to qualify for the promotion (see terms & conditions), which won’t be the cheapest fare. However, if you are a business traveler, you most likely are booking a qualifying fare so this promotion could be quite valuable.

3) Combine 3 Offers From TravelPony to Save Big on Hotels – A relative new player to the field of online travel agencies, TravelPony is an online hotel reservation site with over 20,000 hotels worldwide, usually at prices cheaper then Orbitz, Expedia and the actual hotel’s website. This week they are celebrating their one year anniversary by promotion a different discount code each day. For example, some of the daily deals have been 8% off hotels and save $25 on a $250+ hotel reservation. You can check back daily for the latest deal on their website and if you signup via a friend referral you get $35 off your first reservation while the person that referred you gets $35 credit as well. If you want to signup and save $35, here is my referral link. Lastly, the third offer is to use code TPSAVINGS for an additional 10-45% off (varies by hotel). You can combine all 3 offers (new member, daily deal and TPSAVINGS code) for an awesome deal on a hotel room.

Point & Center: ~$120 Flights to Hong Kong, Chase Freedom Loses a Key Benefit & Hyatt Fall Promotion

Here are the some of the key promotions and news you should know about in the world of points & miles.

1) ~$120 Flights to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific – Cathay Pacific is having a promotion in which they will sell 2,014 tickets at 100 HKD for trips to and from Hong Kong. I’m sure it will be competitive but it doesn’t seem impossible to get a ticket if you time it right. Below is a snapshot of the routes for sale (all to/from Hong Kong). The interesting ones are definitely the US to Hong Kong routes in premium economy. With taxes, the flights will be about 957 HKD or around $120 USD. Remember to set an alarm for Tuesday 8am on August 26nd when tickets go on sale.

I should mention this is intended for Cathay Pacific Asia Miles account holders who list a residence in HK. However, there is nothing stopping you from registering for a new Cathay Pacific Asia Miles account and to use the address of a hotel in HK…

2) Chase Freedom Loses 10% Annual Bonus – The Chase Freedom is arguably one of the most valuable no annual fee credit cards as it earns valuable Chase points at 5x depending on the category each quarter and if you also hold a Chase Ink card or Chase Sapphire Preferred, you could transfer your Chase Freedom points to your Ink/Sapphire Preferred card and then transfer them out to airlines or hotels. One of the nice features of the Freedom card was if you were also a Chase checking account customer, you would receive an annual 10% bonus on all points earned from your Freedom card but this is being discontinued as of 12/31/15. This was a nice perk that required no additional effort or registration so it will be one I will miss (as I’m a Chase checking customer) even if it only resulted in a few thousands points a year. There are a few additional changes but none as noteworthy as this one.

3) Hyatt Fall Promotion Announced (Targeted) – Every quarter most of the big hotel chains announce a special promotion in which they offer bonus points, free nights or some combination of the two to entice guests to stay with them. Hyatt is the first hotel chain to announce its Q3 promo and there seem to be variety of offers that are targeted to individual users. Even if you haven’t received an email yet, I highly recommend trying to register for the promotion at the links below. I got the 2,000 bonus points after each stay so make sure you try to register so you don’t miss any extra points you might be entitled to.
