I saw this morning on Dans Deals that many British Airways Avios accounts have been hacked and many users are reporting missing Avios. While attempting to check our accounts, I’ve been hacked as well as my wife. I can’t log into my British Airways Avios account but on Award Wallet, I see that my account has suddenly dropped by 19,837 Avios. My wife’s second account (long story) only has a handful of Avios but that account is missing 163 Avios.

Those are odd numbers and I’m not sure what those points were redeemed for by the hackers. British Airways is aware of the issue and has started restricting access to these accounts (my case) or preemptively temporarily removing all the Avios out of the account to prevent further hacking.

You can call British Airways at 800-452-1201 to verify your identity and get access to your account. Be prepared for long wait times though as it is never fun dealing with BA on the phone. I don’t have time to call them now but I plan on letting this sit for a day or two and then seeing what British Airways response is. I have no doubt my Avios will be restored to my account in full – this just stinks if you planned to redeem Avios this weekend. I believe you still can redeem Avios but you will definitely need to call them do so.
